The Meeting at the Mage Guild

Well last night was certainly interesting. The King called for everyone in the realm to take the class that was being given at the mage guild. I attended and then also stayed for the class on roleplaying a mage and made some interesting discoveries. At least this is my understanding of what i heard. If i am wrong about this i would like to know the error of my beliefs.

1) Mages have no set spell list. They can make up anything they want as a spell and use anything as a vehicle to deliver the spell. Thus they have unlimited creativity.

Clerics on the other hand have to adhere to a limited spell list. I suppose they can manifest the divine spell however they want but a cleric usually is expected to pray for their power from a specific diety.

2) Mages have no point system they have to watch out for. If a spell is very powerful it is up to them to say whether their character is overcome by the effort.

Clerics have a very specific point system beyond which if they try to do a spell they are expected to collapse from exhaustion.

3) Mages do nothing for their power except the act of casting the spell. They are not required to be seen studying their spell books or anything like that.

As i understand it Clerics are expected to be seen praying or meditating every day so that they can stay in contact with their divine powers.

I am sure there are other points that can be brought up but even with just these points i have no questions why there are only 5 active clerics in the realm where there are many, many mages. It seems to me given the above points that being a mage is fun with unlimited creativity where being a cleric could be seen as limited without nearly as many powers or opportunities for creativity.

I am afraid that after a while i could no longer stay silent about the above points and began pointing them out. I must admit that the one doing the class was very patient with me and answered my questions to the best of her ability.

These are things i think must be thought about and perhaps brought up to the council. Otherwise we will continue to have very few clerics in the realm. Perhaps that will not matter to anyone but do not the clerics actually perform a specific service with their healing powers? So far that is the one thing that i understand that a mage cannot do.. or perhaps they can. But then of course we also have the meters that allow someone to recover so perhaps clerics are not really necessary after all.

No one wants to ONLY be called when someone is hurt. I went through that in Everwind where i was not invited to the roleplay until the end when someone needed healing.

It got very old very fast.

Clerics can fight, and our powers can be very important in battles and other events if things are set up with some thought. We do not necessarily have to have the same powers as Mages. That would be boring. But if mages can do EVERYTHING but heal then perhaps there should be some overlapping of powers. I do believe that the Clerics are too restricted and our true potential is not known.

In any case I will continue to look up clerics powers online to familiarize myself with all that a cleric can do.

As for the rest of the evening the Archer/Dragon Hunt was a great sucess as usual. Strangely enough the archers seem to like being roasted. I suspect it does sharpen their skills. They must be learning something because in the very last session i was brought down for the first time that evening. I suppose that would be an encouragement to the archers, knowing that they can bring us down especially with the advantages we seem to have.

As far as i am concerned that is part of the point. Yes dragons do have extra powers.. we fly, we flame, and we will have a few other powers as well hopefully. But then to ally with us will bring our powers to the bipeds also.. or to fight us and winn will make it that much more of an accomplishment.

It is as in life. Not everything is fair. But that makes the accomplishment that much sweeter. Perhaps i should look at the clerics powers in the same way. Instead of being so concerned about having a fair playing field perhaps i should look at the challenge that using limited powers would be and the accomplishment that it will also bring.

I do fear that our full potential will not be known and as it was before we will only be considered at the end of the adventure for the healing we can do.

Thubanism on Trial

Last night was once more busy. When i got online we had a Clerics meeting. There was much that we could have spoken of, the spell lists, the gods, enrollment ect.. I had only meant to mention this in passing, just to bring it up since it was still a work in progress but unfortunately the subject took over the whole meeting.

It was basically in creating the history of Thubanism and the dragons i saw an opportunity to insert a place for the other gods as well and perhaps explain their relationships. I thought to create a history for all the gods... yes as we had in Everwind.

We debated several points and then finally realized that we would need to consult all the race leaders for such points as to whether the gods would be the creators of the races or if each race would be born from the fires of creation. Eventually i decided to shelve the idea. There are other more immediate things to work on and seemingly too many obstacles at the moment.

Anyway in the regular council meeting my good friend Alphonsus (yes i am posting about you! *grins*) surprised me by bringing up Thubanism. Thank the ancestors i was somewhat prepared, though i think i would have cleaned up my document a bit more had i known i was going to give it out to everyone.

Be that as it may he helped me get over the hurdle of actually introducing it myself which as a second i couldn't do anyway unless Alphonsus was not there and then i would have had to do it by myself. *shivers* Fortunately i am not qualified to do so.

It also allowed me to be there to talk about it or defend it to others. Though i am not sure how much good that was when suddenly faced with half the council wanting to know about it... i was tongue tied and could not think to express myself adequately.

I gave out many copies of the work including one to the Queen this morning who crashed before recieving it last night. I only hope our work, that of Soo, SnowBlind and myself will be seen as worthy in the eyes of the leaders of this realm.

Recent Events

Things have been busy for me in Triskele recently.

Aside from reviewing the Cleric's spell list, i have also been busy researching and writing the History of Thuban. I am incorperating what i am learning of the biped gods into this history as well. I intend to submit my scrolls to Alphonsus very soon, hopefully at the clerics meeting tonight.

Sierra has returned! Yayyy! Now i think i can start consulting with him about some of the things i am developing and hear his ideas too.

We had a bit of an adventure last night. The drow queen apparently was insulted by some slight and captured Ravenn and the Queens Consult. I joined many of the bipeds in searching the drow tunnels and battling the drow to find the two captives. I notice once i told Houman, the Moon dragon second that a dragon had been captured he was filled with such anger that he joined us also. We did manage to recover them as well as capture the drow queen herself so the mission was a sucess.

I'm sorry Alphonsus, i know you dont want to know about this but i am writing about it since i was there and others might want to know. It does not mean that i will necessarily go back there on a regular basis. I have too much to do in Triskele as it is.

Anyway, for those who don't know, there was a meeting with the King and Queen of Everwind and they will be opening their realm again for any who might wish to travel there. Things will be a bit different.

Groups if there are any will be managed by the roleplayers themselves, not by any administrators. Technically this means as long as it follows the rules of Everwind that aside from that we have free rein there (within reason). An example of this is the limits that were imposed upon the dragons in the dragon rules may not exist any more.

It also means if there are problems with in the group or between 2 different groups, they have to work these out themselves.

The sim owners will deal with griefers, and if the groups so desire (as i understand it) problem players with banning. But they will not be involved except to do the desired actions.

If there is need for combat it will be conducted in special platforms above the realm (or in text based roleplay with dice on the ground). This way combat, meters, scripted weapons and other items will not interfere lagwize with any other roleplay on the ground.

Some special building may be asked of Queen Grace but she will not necessarily agree to do it, or she may.

There will be no age verification, since the sim is open to everyone as well as roleplayers. That way anyone can come to visit and the responsibility for being there will be on that person or group, not on the royals.

I think i have covered the main points. If anyone wants it, i do have a record of the meeting. Just ask me for it when you see me in world.

Malakyte's History

Rosaria Chaffe (her human name) is a young dragon whose mother hid her from hunters by changing her to human form. Found by villagers after the hunters left the hatchling dragon was raised by humans and forgot her true identity.

For years she has wandered from realm to realm. She made Everwind her home, finding friends and joining the clerics guild. As a cleric of Illustree she discovered a new role for herself, a way to contribute to others.

Then one day the dragon emerged though each form saw the experiences of the other only as dreams. The dragon became a weyrling among the ancients of the realm. After a time she undertook the quest for Ancient status.

Through the dragon religion of Thubanism her human and dragon selves approached greater awareness that eventually led to a union and integrated whole.

Malakyte found she enjoyed helping the new dragons to the realm and became a dragon mentor. Eventually she was appointed to the office of Ancient Preceptor.

Tragedy struck one day when an unknown mage interefered with the magic of the floating weyr and it fell, crashing into the land. The woods of Everwind were lost.

Things seemed to return to normal for a while, but residual magic from the incident changed the land and cast all its inhabitants out. For a time all in Everwind were without a home.

Malakyte as a dragon was lucky in that she could fly from realm to realm. She found TrinketStar, the new Queen and Maxious on the island of Aglarond. But eventually she became familiar with a land called Triskellion where many Everwind residents had settled.

The land of Triskellion was ready for new leaders and when she met the leader of the dragons, SnowBlind, he was impressed with her. She became leader of the Twilight Dragons with her friend Sierra as her second. Eventually she became SnowBlind's second as Regent of Dragons and was able to attend the council meetings.

Still a healer at heart she found her friends Alphonsus and Wren at the new clerics guild. Alphonsus had become the Speaker for Odin and Wren, Speaker for Parlamay. Both religions seemed counterparts for those in Everwind, Castan and Illustree.

Malakyte however had become so taken with the dragon philosphy of Thubanism that she had learned from the Dragon Queen Soo that she became Speaker for Thuban, and the new dragon religion was born.

Why Not?

I really am tempted...

My live journal is just way too old and has too much of my personal history on it, but why not use this one for my character's posts?

It would not be bogged down with all the real life problems of my live journal, since i have hardly even used it. It would relate to the one group i belong to, TTR since my character, Malakyte has lived there.

And to direct others here i can always post my addy on my profile.

Well who am i trying to convince? *Laughs*

Edit:
Ok just figured out how to edit this thing.
The next question is how do i add a space for friends?
